Cut 3"x3" pieces of 600 or finer emery paper and put a hole in the center to place over the 1/2" dowel. Put the 3/8" dowel in your drill and put the 1/2" dowel in the bore and start polishing it. It will be slick in no time. They all leaked and a 300 grain Pittman pushed by 72 grains of H4198 disintegrated my primer. I changed those three guns to Hankins ignitions and all the ones I built since are Hankins.A patch made with 1 part Castor oil and 6 parts denatured alcohol shoots very well for me. You simply mix the solution together, dip your patches in it, and then lay them out flat to let the alcohol evaporate off. It leaves a patch with a very light coating of castor oil.
