In IWBUMS/41.54 exactly this is mentioned to be possible. Metal Drums can be moved with the furniture tool - wich works. And water can poured into them - wich doesn´t work. I can dismantle them without getting any usable metal. there is no menu option to pour water in them. But, those metal drums are named "barrel"!

Look for furniture --> composter. You'll need 5 planks and 4 nails to build it. If you're farming a lot then I recommend building two!
