Refined storage vs applied energistics.

Favorite storage mod to use with Create. I know most people enjoy using Refined Storage or Applied Energistics for large modpacks. But both dont really merge well with create and are somewhat antithetical to Create's design. So I want to know what storage mods have you found the most fun to use with create. 36. jangro. Moderator. • 2 yr. ago. I haven't done this with AE2, but I have with Refined Storage's external storage device which I assume works the same as the external bus on AE2. You'll need to test it. With RS, you can connect the control block of a warehouse as external storage and the entire warehouse inventory will become network storage. Refined storage is cheaper and simpler for storage systems that don't require incredibly complex automation (ae2 is better for that). I haven't gotten to the pack's late game, but I can't think of anything refined storage can't do. In short: AE2 is significantly more flexible, though that introduces a steeper learning curve. It also adds gameplay, which you need to go through in order to use its tools. I did some lag busting and found almost 50% tps drop when looking towards a wall of about 90 quantum storage units. I was also looking through a pair of the tier 4 miners from environmental tech so that could be the source of the lag. I relocated the quantum storage units and saw an improvement in TPS.

Refined storage is easier to use, easier to get into, and some people prefer the aesthetics of the blocks and the look and feel of the interface. Refined Storage has native fluid support. You don't have to worry about types, since a 4k disk will hold exactly 4000 items. RS also has better cross-mod compatibility (AE2 doesn't even recognize any wrenches that aren't its own!). Applied Energistics 2 is a lot more complex. Setting up your system becomes more of a puzzle.

So in terms of mass storage QIO is probably better but Ae2 has way better functionality, like a crafting grid or autocrafting. It is a little OP, being able to access your storage from anywhere (even across dimensions) for very little RF, but the inventory management mini-game lost its appeal for me long ago.
